Tremolite: Deep Lore & Mystical Properties

**Brief Description:** Tremolite is a white, grey, or green silicate mineral known for its fibrous form and transformation into diopside at high temperatures. It is primarily used for chakra realignment, emotional release, and fostering a deep connection with nature and self-love.

### Science & Origin of Tremolite

Tremolite is a silicate mineral belonging to the amphibole group. It forms as masses, fibrous aggregates, and prismatic crystals. The mineral was named in 1789 by Johann Georg Albrecht Höpfner after the Tremola Valley in the Central St. Gotthard Massif, Switzerland. However, it is now thought that the original discovery occurred 14 kilometers south, at the present-day Campolungo Pass. Tremolite can be found in white, grey, colorless, green, and yellow varieties. While polished tremolite is safe to handle, its raw fibrous form should be avoided due to toxicity.

### The Libby Mine

The Libby Mine in Montana was a major vermiculite mine active during the 1920s under the Zonolite company. In 1963, W.R. Grace acquired the mine and operated it until 1990. At its peak, the mine supplied an estimated 80% of the world's vermiculite. Vermiculite from the mine was heated, crushed, and used in insulation products. Unfortunately, the mine was contaminated with tremolite asbestos. It is estimated that around 35 million homes, schools, and workplaces in the United States were affected. Vermiculite from the mine was also used in paving, mulching, brake linings, waste treatment, fire protection, and egg incubation. The impact of asbestos from the mine is ongoing, with over 200 residents of Libby believed to have died from exposure, and many more expected to suffer from asbestos-related diseases.

### Unique Properties

Tremolite is a unique mineral and a variety of nephrite, one of the two minerals that make up jade (the other being jadeite). At high temperatures, it can transform into diopside. This has led miners and geologists to anticipate the presence of diopside crystals when tremolite is found.

### Meaning & Energy

Tremolite shares energies with serpentine and aids in chakra realignment and emotional release. Both stones offer protection and love to the heart, fostering a true connection within. Through this self-love, you can release deep emotional wounds. Daily interaction with tremolite can bring a strong grounding vibration that resonates deeply. This crystal helps you stay present in the physical world, strengthening your connection to nature. The unique combination of minerals in tremolite contributes to its distinctive energy.

We suggest working with tremolite outdoors to enhance your bond with nature and its healing properties. Try meditating with your favorite piece of tremolite and other nature-based stones during the most vibratory times of day: dusk or dawn. Some crystals that pair well with tremolite include jade, serpentine, green tourmaline, chrysoprase, green calcite, diopside, and malachite.
