Howlite: Deep Lore & Mystical Properties

**Brief Description:** Howlite is a calcium borosilicate hydroxide mineral characterized by its chalky white color and distinctive black veins. It is primarily used for emotional healing, promoting calmness, and connecting the root and crown chakras to foster inner strength and confidence.

### Science & Origin of Howlite

Howlite, also known as Magnesite, is a calcium borosilicate hydroxide mineral that typically forms as masses, nodules, and occasionally as small prismatic crystals. Its most common appearance is a chalky white color with distinctive black veins, though it can also be found in brown or colorless varieties. Howlite was first identified in 1868 near Windsor, Nova Scotia, by Henry How, a Canadian chemist and geologist. How was informed of an unusual mineral found in a nearby gypsum mine and, upon investigation, determined it to be a new mineral species. He initially named it "silicoborocalcite" due to its perceived chemical composition. After his death, the mineral was renamed "Howlite" in his honor by James Dwight Dana, an eminent American geologist and volcanologist.

In addition to its original discovery in Nova Scotia, Howlite is found in Germany, Serbia, Turkey, and the United States. Notably, California and Nevada are the only places in the world where Howlite has been discovered in crystallized form, a significant find for the geological community.
